Rickman Manrick during his appearance at GNL Zamba’s podcast shared a story of how he was inspired into starting his music career.
The musician, real name Ddungu Derrick, credited rapper Feffe Bussi for being the driving force behind his huge decision to join music.
Rickman Manrick narrated that he first met Feffe Bussi in 2008 at a music event that happened at Didi’s World Kansanga. Initially, Feffe Bussi was a very close friend to Gravity Omutujju with whom they used to play football at school.
After the event had ended, the three friends had to get home but on their way to the car park, Feffe Bussi treated them to a number of freestyles with no beat. Feffe Bussi’s rapping skills left a lasting impression on Rickman Manrick, who began writing his own songs.
“He was putting on a very big T-Shirt and after the event, we moved from Kansanga to the park to get taxis back to our homes. But all the way, he was freestyling for us. I picked so much interest but I could not do what he did, Rickman Manrick narrated.
Being shy and scared to sing his own songs, Rickman shared them with Gravity Omutujju who was more confident, and together they co-wrote ‘Katakonkome’ hit song. This ultimately gave him the courage to start making his own music.
I thought I would not make a good musician but after meeting Feffe Bussi, I knew I would manage. I was good at literature and figured I would just write my lyrics and not freestyle.

Interestingly, I wrote songs but I was scared of singing them because I did not have the confidence. I did not know anything so I kept on writing and giving them to Gravity. He picked interest too,” he said.
