Singer Maro has heaped praises on Douglas Mayanja commonly known as Weasel Manizzo, branding him as one of the most creative Ugandan artists going by his lyrics.
Weasel as the other half of the Goodlyfe duo has always been underrated when it comes to songwriting with most music fans preferring the late Mowzey Radio’s pen skills and crowning him as the better songwriter among the two.
Maro, the self-styled RnB Kyabazinga who has had a chance to record with the duo on ‘Maze Okukwetegereza’ before Radio’s death begs to differ as he believes Weasel has deep lyrics/ lines that may be rarely thought of by any random musician without a deep understanding of music.
Funny thing is, he had a lot of lines, not only in our song but for all the songs that they released. People did not realize the maturity in his writing; he is the kind of person to mention a person in a song that will get you researching to know who it is, Maro mentioned.
In 2009, Radio & Weasel released ‘Single and Searching’ and in the lyrics, he mentioned Ben-Straga, an Angolan award-winning rapper, something that left Maro wondering how he would randomly rhyme his lines with the name of an artist that was not known to many.
When he mentioned Ben-Straga, I wondered how he got to know about him. No one can actually think of the things he was singing about,” Maro wondered.
Maro expressed his willingness and desire to one day team up with Weasel on a song because of his immense talent.
