Over the weekend, dancehall artist Beenie Gunter real name Baguma Baguma Crescent was arrested in Dubai following a confrontation with event promoters in Abu Dhabi, where he had a scheduled performance.
Beenie Gunter’s arrest took place while he was returning to Uganda via Dubai, and he was subsequently taken back to Abu Dhabi for further questioning.
Reports from Abu Dhabi indicated that the singer could potentially face imprisonment if timely assistance was not provided.
This morning, Eddy Kenzo, the president of UNMF, addressed the issue and confirmed his awareness of the situation.
Kenzo expressed his deep concern over the continued detention of the singer, especially considering that emerging information suggests that Beenie Gunter was not directly involved in the altercation under investigation.
Kenzo emphasized that he is making every effort to contact H.E Zaake Kibedi, the Ambassador of Uganda in the United Arab Emirates, to ensure that Beenie Gunter receives fair treatment and is released as soon as possible and holding those responsible for their actions accountable.
