In an announcement today, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Uganda’s first son and Chief of Defence for the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), revealed that he is quitting X (formerly Twitter) after a decade of active engagement on the platform.
The General Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s departure comes after a series of controversial tweets that have often stirred public debate and even resulted in official clarifications from the Ugandan government.
His posts over the years have ranged from bold political statements to remarks that sparked international attention, leading some to question his approach to discussions and military affairs
In his farewell post, General Kainerugaba expressed his gratitude for the support he has received over the years.
“To all my dear followers, it has been a great and rousing journey together for the last ten years, since 2014. However, the time has come, under the instructions and blessings of my Lord Jesus Christ, to leave and concentrate on His army, the UPDF.”
Throughout his time on the platform, Muhoozi’s posts(tweets) have often drawn attention. Some of his posts have been seen as controversial, with many questioning the implications of his statements on regional security and political matters. On a few occasions, the government had to step in, issuing formal letters to clarify or distance itself from his remarks.
In his message, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba implied that his decision was guided by a higher calling, stating that it was “under the instructions and blessings of my Lord Jesus Christ” that he chose to leave the platform.
General Muhoozi Kainerugaba expressed his love and appreciation for his followers, assuring them that despite his departure from social media, his mission remains steadfast.

“I know you all love me and that you will continue to follow me. At an appropriate time in the future, after fulfilling God’s assignment to restore everlasting peace and security to His people in our region, we shall reconvene.”
General Muhoozi Kainerugaba urged his followers to continue supporting Uganda, Africa, and his father, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
“I love you all so much, and in whatever you do, continue to support Uganda, Africa, and our President, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. Farewell, and God bless you all.”
