Kadongo Kamu singer and Kyengera town council mayor Mathias Walukagga has called out Swangz Avenue singer, Azawi, encouraging her to divert all her energy into music rather than using social media to rant on different issues.
For the past couple of weeks, there has been a debate on social media with youths storming parliament over the skyrocketing corruption in the country.
Musicians like Azawi have been vocal about the situation, something that did not sit well with Walukagga.
Addressing the press, Mathias Walukagga took pride in having been active, releasing revolutionary songs like Bakoowu, Parliament Yaffe, and Ssentebe Wekizinga among others, and thinks these artists speaking up right now do not have clear intentions meant to benefit the country, but rather looking to be recognized by Bobi Wine.
“My boss (Bobi Wine) was on the internet speaking about corruption and very many artists came out with their views discussing politics but they have never come up with these views ever since the struggle started because it just did not start yesterday. My question is, are you artists coming up now? Where have you been? I do not blame you for coming late, you are welcome but know what you have come for.
“If you have come to please Bobi Wine and show him that you have something to talk about, please stay where you were,” Mathias Walukagga said.
The ‘Katulepuke’ hitmaker further advised Azawi to channel all the energy into releasing songs, spreading the message to her fans deep down in the village who do not have smartphones.
“Azawi just like you said what you said, we have very many people deep down in the villages without smartphones who did not hear what you said on the internet. What I want you to do is to put this message in your songs so that when your fan hears your voice as Azawi, they will know that the message is real.
Use music to tell your story of how your family members died without medical care, to show your fans that the country is not governed in the right way. That is all we want, not when Kyagulanyi is on the internet and you all swarm with your views,” he said.
Mathias Walukagga gave an example of King Saha who he says uses his music to express his emotions and speak about what is happening in the country. He further claimed that the artists who called out their fellow artists for staying quiet amidst the corruption battle were only doing it because they had ulterior motives.

“I hope you are not eyeing political seats from his party since we are moving towards 2026, a year when people are looking for where they can contest for political positions and are using this time to show that you have seen the truth.
You have amazing thoughts and I encourage you to put all that in music. When the songs become many, we shall be able to liberate the country but you have unfortunately come out late. If you are not genuine, people are looking at you and they will definitely judge you,” Mathias Walukagga concluded.
