Viboyo Narrates How Broke He Was Not To Afford ‘Nyumbani’ Video

In a heartwarming interview, singer Viboyo Oweyo born Moses Nsubuga has opened up about how penniless he was when shooting the video for his popular collaboration with the late Radio Mowzey and Weasl Manizzo (Goodlyfe Crew) titled ‘Nyumbani’.

Despite having no money to pay for the shoot, he gave in his printer to the producer who luckily accepted the barter trade. He even went as far as borrowing clothes from Radio Mowzey for the shoot because he could not afford the change of wardrobe.

At the Nyumbani video shoot, I didn’t have any single coin to pay the producer. I asked him if I could offer him my printer in exchange for his help with the video and he accepted. I couldn’t even afford the clothes for the shoot, it was Radio who gave me some of his, Viboyo said.

Against all odds, the song dropped in 2008 and became a massive hit, dominating airwaves across East Africa. This helped in changing his finances, enabling him to acquire his very first car with the money given to him by a generous female fan.

I got my first car from our Nyumbani song. One woman approached me and gave me money in appreciation for the song. I used that money to buy that car, he said.

The biggest and most prestigious thing I’ve got from music is social capital. I have met people who have given me some of the biggest blessings I wouldn’t have gotten if I didn’t join the music business,” he said.
